 VINSON CHARD(Nom de plume)

About Vinson Chard

Proudly Welsh and from a working class background, Vinson Chard was born May 1951 in a small Welsh valley town called Ebbw Vale, with a steel making history, located in the eastern valleys of South Wales and where the late, great Aneurin ( Nye) Bevan, the instigator and founding father of the wonderful British NHS, was the Member of Parliament throughout the middle part of the twentieth century.

After receiving his initial education at the local Grammar School, Vinson studied Chemical Engineering at the University College Swansea, obtaining a degree in 1973. From 1973 onwards he worked in various aspects of industry utilising his Chemical Engineering/ Chemical  knowledge.

Now retired, and living in Swansea South Wales, UK, Vinson has tried his hand at writing by self-publishing. His first book, "Life's Rich Mix" tells of his time working in industry from 1969 (initially the summer months from 1969 to1973, working in the local steelworks endeavouring to supplement his student grant. He then moves on to his full time employment from 1973 until 1981) and relates the stories concerning incidents, events and the plethora of characters he has worked alongside, writing the stories with humour, warmth and affection.

Vinson published his second book titled "Toxic Mayhem," in April 2014. This book jumps a decade is about his time spent working in the hazardous waste industry during the early 90's, imparting stories concerning some dubious characters he continually seems to encounter associated with this industry.

In December 2018, Vinson published his third book, "Toxic Bedlam and Misadventure,"

continuing in the same vein, with true tales of working in the Toxic Waste Industry, this time employed by another company, involved with the High Temperature Incineration of highly toxic, hazardous waste.

All three books may be purchased from Amazon as paperbacks, e-books and also as audio books.

Limited amounts of all the books may also be purchased through Waterstones, Blackwells, Barnes & Noble and W.H.Smith.

Vinson married Christine, his third wife, in July 2006. They have three grown up children, eight grandchildren, two boisterous dogs and an adopted, mischievous cat.

Throughout the years Vinson has been greatly influenced by humourous writers such as: Tom Sharpe, Bill Bryson, Leslie Thomas, James Herriot,Tom Wolfe. All are writers he admires immensely, both in genre, style and humourous content.

Vinson considers his personal writing style to exhibit a sometimes dark, slightly warped, twisted, quirky sense of humour, with just a smidgen of sex and satire thrown in for good measure. He has a small cult following of readers due to the limited edition of books printed.

This amateur author is currently in the process of writing his fourth book. This time the the stories are set in the eighties and are about his time spent working for a large International American Computer Corporation as a Process Engineer manufacturing 14 inch main frame computer disks for memory storage.

There are more stories involving some of the characters he comes across and incidents he encounters in the Hi-Tech industry.

Vinson is also Secretary on the Trustee Board of a charity based in east Swansea which provides high dose oxygen to people living with MS. "The MS Therapy Centre." The Charity also provides inexpensive treatment for people suffering from other neurological conditions, as well as cancer and fractures.
